The hills and valleys of Massachusetts carved from a myriad of rock types and covered with debris left by an overriding ice sheet, provide a record that extends back more than 600 million years. This video which makes use of live action and computer animation, takes us on a tour of the major physiographic regions of Massachusetts including the Coastal Plain province and the New England providence of the Appalachian Highlands. It shows what the glaciers did to the state, the geologic history, the major fossil and rock types, the Taconic Mountains, the Berkshires and the major rivers.
